Stillness of Night (YAKI)

The word Yaki in Japanese is composed of two Chinese characters. The first character; “ya” stands for ‘evening’ or ‘night’, whereas the second “ki”, which is a character that has a wide range of meanings, represents or refers in this specific context to ‘air’, and can also be interpreted as ‘atmosphere’. Therefore, the translation of the word in English would be Night Air. However, while searching for the English interpretation of this word, I came across another interpretation: Stillness of Night. Infatuated with this refined word Yaki and guided by the shining of the night, I wandered through Tokyo’s night landscapes, when reality and fantasy blend into each other.
